Assessing hyperthermia performance of hybrid textile filaments: The impact of different heating agents

Benedikt Mues et al.

Summary: The study investigates the hyperthermia performance of different hybrid filaments functionalized with magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) and discusses the relevant parameters influencing heating efficiency such as MNP immobilization, agglomeration, and magnetization, as well as AMF settings. The highest specific loss power values were reached for the self-synthesized particles at lower magnetic field amplitudes (<25 kA/m) and for BNF-Starch particles at high magnetic field amplitudes (>25 kA/m) due to the higher anisotropy constant of the BNF-Starch particles and their collective magnetic response at higher magnetic field amplitudes.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Nanomagnetic Actuation of Hybrid Stents for Hyperthermia Treatment of Hollow Organ Tumors

Benedikt Mues et al.

Summary: This study describes a magnetic nanotechnology that uses polymer hybrid stents with incorporated magnetic nanoparticles for hyperthermia treatment of hollow organ tumors. The results demonstrate that the heating efficiency of stent filaments increases with frequency and magnetic field amplitude, but saturates at a certain level. Immobilization of MNP significantly influences heating efficiency. Nanomagnetic actuation of hybrid stents shows promise for cancer treatment of hollow organ tumors.

Summary: A novel theranostic agent based on mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) was developed for T1/T2 dual magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided liver cancer chemo-photothermal therapy. The agent showed excellent photothermal conversion capability and precise dual mode contrast imaging effect, making it a promising nanoplatform for the effective treatment of hepatic cancer.
