Preparation of core-shell heterojunction photocatalysts by coating CdS nanoparticles onto Bi4Ti3O12 hierarchical microspheres and their photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants and Cr(VI) ions

Tingting Cheng et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully constructed core-shell BTO/CdS heterojunction photocatalysts, which exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity in degrading dyes and harmful ions. The enhanced photocatalytic mechanism of BTO/CdS heterojunction photocatalysts was discussed based on a Z-scheme carrier transfer process.

Graphene-derived antibacterial nanocomposites for water disinfection: Current and future perspectives

Basma Omran et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial nanomaterials, specifically graphene family nano materials (GFNs), have shown great potential for water disinfection applications. This comprehensive review discusses the recent innovations and applications of graphene, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, and graphene quantum dot-based nanocomposites in water disinfection, as well as their physicochemical and structural properties affecting antibacterial efficiency and the mechanisms of their antibacterial action. The potential biosafety and biocompatibility of GFNs in aquatic environments are also emphasized. This review provides valuable insights for the development of efficient and practical solutions for water disinfection using graphene-based nanocomposites.

Exploring mechanisms of different active species formation in heterogeneous Fenton systems by regulating iron chemical environment

Yue Yin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups on the formation of active species in Fenton-like processes by preparing MOFs with different substituents. It is found that electron-donating groups promote HO center dot generation, while electron-withdrawing groups lead to the formation of Fe(IV)--O transition products. The manipulation of substituents on MOFs ligands provides mechanistic insight into active species regulation during Fenton-like processes.

Heterogeneous Fenton Chemistry Revisited: Mechanistic Insights from Ferrihydrite-Mediated Oxidation of Formate and Oxalate

Yufan Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that the adsorption and decomposition of formate and H2O2 in the presence of freshly formed ferrihydrite are controlled by surface-initiated reactions, affecting the surface Fenton reactions. Oxidation mainly occurs in the solid-liquid boundary layer, rather than in bulk or on the surface.
