Surface chemistry tuning the selectivity of carbon nanodots towards Hg2+ recognition

Mengli Yang et al.

Summary: Fluorescence quenching of carbon nanodots by metal ions has been widely used for the determination of various substances. The specific recognition of carbon nanodots to Hg2+ is achieved by controlling the surface structure and passivating certain functional groups. This work enables the rational design of carbon nanodots for improved selective recognition abilities.

Lanthanides-based multifunctional luminescent films for ratiometric humidity sensing, information storage, and colored coating

Diandong Xia et al.

Summary: A new type of luminescent films was developed by using a simple solution casting method based on the reaction between hyaluronic acid (HA) and lanthanide ions (Tb3+ and/or Eu3+). The luminescent films exhibited coordination interactions between HA and lanthanides, supporting energy transfer and tunable emission color. These films were applied for humidity detection, information transmission using water as inks, and colored coating, showing potential versatile applications.

On the wrong assignment of the XPS O1s signal at 531-532 eV attributed to oxygen vacancies in photo- and electro-catalysts for water splitting and other materials applications

Hicham Idriss

Summary: The XPS O1s signal mistakenly attributed to oxygen vacancies is actually due to the adsorption of water molecules on the oxide surface under ambient conditions. Surface oxygen vacancies in binary or mixed metal oxide materials or catalysts will be oxidized instantly due to the strong adsorption energy of water, making it impossible for ex-situ measurements.

Strongly emissive formamide-derived N-doped carbon dots embedded Eu (III)-based metal-organic frameworks as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for ultrasensitive and visual quantitative detection of Ag

Yuanhua Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel ratiometric fluorescent sensor was designed and synthesized for ultrasensitive and visual quantitative detection of Ag+, with a low detection limit and prominent selectivity. By encapsulating carbon dots in metal-organic frameworks, the sensor exhibits robust self-calibration function and excellent accumulation effect, achieving the lowest LOD value among all reported sensors for Ag+.
