Charging dynamics of electrical double layers inside a cylindrical pore: predicting the effects of arbitrary pore size

Filipe Henrique et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of electrode-pore-size distribution on energy storage in supercapacitors and pseudocapacitors. By developing a model and performing perturbation analysis, it was found that charging times decrease with increasing pore size relative to the Debye length, and large potential changes occur in thin transition regions. The analysis also revealed insights into the contributions of electromigration and charge diffusion fluxes on charging timescale and capacitance.

Assembly of Nanofluidic MXene Fibers with Enhanced Ionic Transport and Capacitive Charge Storage by Flake Orientation

Shuo Li et al.

Summary: MXenes are highly conductive 2D materials with electrochemical storage features, and oriented Ti3C2Tx fibers exhibit excellent volumetric capacitive charge storage capability and mechanical strength. The wet spinning process can improve the electronic conductivity and morphology of the fibers, making them ideal for applications in electrochemical energy storage, biosensors, and potentially biocompatible fibrillar tissues.

Transmission Line Circuit and Equation for an Electrolyte-Filled Pore of Finite Length

Mathijs Janssen

Summary: This study discusses the strong connection between the transmission line equation and the transmission line circuit model in the charging process of an electrolyte-filled pore. It shows how boundary conditions such as Robin and Neumann emerge in the TL circuit, and explains the relaxation time τ consistently across the TL circuit, TL equation, and known impedance of the pore. An approximation of τ clarifies the relaxation time determined numerically in the stack-electrode model by Lian et al.

Modeling galvanostatic charge-discharge of nanoporous supercapacitors

Liang Zeng et al.

Summary: Molecular modeling is essential in studying energy storage of supercapacitors at the atomistic level, with the constant potential method providing a realistic description of charge repartition and dynamics. A new modeling approach has been developed to simulate the galvanostatic charge-discharge process of supercapacitors under constant potential, showing experimentally consistent dynamics and hysteresis in ion adsorption-desorption at the molecular scale. This approach enables accurate modeling of physics and electrochemistry in supercapacitor dynamics.

Electrolyte structure near electrodes with molecular-size roughness

Timur Aslyamov et al.

Summary: Understanding the influence of electrode surface morphology on ions' distribution is crucial for designing supercapacitors with enhanced energy density characteristics. The developed model describes an increase in the effective electrostatic field near the rough surface of electrodes, leading to intensified spatial separation of ions at the electrode-electrolyte interface. This research could provide a new tool for optimizing electrode surface parameters to improve capacitance values.
