Nanorolls Decorated with Nanotubes as a Novel Type of Nanostructures: Fast Anodic Oxidation of Amorphous Fe-Cr-B Alloy in Hydrophobic Ionic Liquid

Olga Lebedeva et al.

Summary: Oxide nanorolls and nanotubes were observed on the surface of amorphous Fe70Cr15B15 alloy during anodic oxidation in a hydrophobic ionic liquid. The formation of this novel nanostructure is dependent on the presence of a natural oxide film and the state of the electrode surface. The electrochemical behavior of the alloy in the ionic liquid is influenced by the surface state before oxidation, as demonstrated through partial etching with different concentrations of benzoic acid.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Do Deep Eutectic Solvents Behave Like Ionic Liquid Electrolytes? A Perspective from the Electrode-Electrolyte Interface

William Dean et al.

Summary: The differential capacitance as a function of potential and composition for choline chloride and ethylene glycol was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on glassy carbon. The capacitance-potential curves on glassy carbon were interpreted by the modified Gouy-Chapman model, showing a dampened U-shape similar to dilute electrolytes. Differential capacitance was found to be independent of composition on glassy carbon, but varied with different factors on Au and Pt electrodes. Additionally, these results suggest that deep eutectic solvents and H-bonded electrolytes with high salt concentrations have distinct properties from ionic liquids.

Comparative study on the anodizing process of Ti and Zr and oxide morphology

Xia Li et al.

Summary: The comparative study of Ti and Zr anodizing processes under different voltages revealed significant differences in the structure and morphology of their nanotubes. While Ti exhibited a state of constant current during anodization, Zr did not, indicating a lack of equilibrium between oxide growth and dissolution. The composite structures of ZrO2 nanotubes were identified through analysis of current-time curves and electron theory.

Tuning the Formation and Structure of the Silicon Electrode/Ionic Liquid Electrolyte Interphase in Superconcentrated Ionic Liquids

Khryslyn Arano et al.

Summary: The study revealed the important influence of the nature of ion liquid cation and salt concentration on the interfacial structure and solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation. The IL cation nature and increased Li salt concentration can effectively control the formation of SEI and impact the reversibility of the lithium-silicon alloying process. The findings indicate a clear connection between the nanostructure of IL electrolyte, SEI formation, and the cycling performance of Si-based batteries.

Deep eutectic solvents: alternative reaction media for organic oxidation reactions

Graziano Di Carmine et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are emerging as an alternative to ionic liquids (ILs) due to their low vapor pressure, capability to dissolve reagents insoluble in common organic solvents, and the possibility to tune the overall pH of the medium by replacing one of the constituents of the mixture. DES can be prepared by combining molecules from natural sources and have the ability to dissolve both organic lipophilic and hydrophilic species, making them efficient in organic oxidation reactions.

Electrochemical Behavior of Benzene, Diphenyl, and p-Terphenyl in Room-Temperature Ionic Liquid N-Butylpyridinium Chloride-AlCl3

O. K. Lebedeva et al.

Summary: The cyclic voltammetry method was used to study the electrochemical oxidation of benzene, diphenyl, and p-terphenyl in an ionic liquid. Comparative analysis of peaks obtained for each initial monomer was conducted, leading to assumptions about differences in the mechanisms of electrochemical synthesis of polyphenylenes in the ionic liquid.
