Geochemical characteristics and the organic matter enrichment of the Upper Ordovician Tanjianshan Group, Qaidam Basin, China

Yuping Wu et al.

Summary: The study of organic matter enrichment in a section of the Upper Ordovician Tanjianshan Group in the Qaidam Basin revealed elevated total organic carbon content, mature organic matter, and hot-arid paleoclimatic conditions. Factors such as paleoredox conditions and paleowater depth were found to play significant roles in the enrichment of organic matter in the rocks.

Paleoenvironment and source-rock potential of the Cenomanian-Turonian Eagle Ford Formation in the Sabinas basin, northeast Mexico

Juan Josu Enciso-Cardenas et al.

Summary: Research on the Eagle Ford Formation in the Sabinas basin reveals similarities in lithological and geochemical characteristics with sites in Texas. The lower Eagle Ford was deposited during a warmer and more humid period in anoxic/dysoxic marine environments, while the upper Eagle Ford was formed under less humid climate conditions and oxic/dysoxic environments. Despite good source rock potential indicated by TOC values, the organic matter is overmature and no longer capable of generating hydrocarbons.

Tectonic evolution of the Sichuan Basin, Southwest China

Shugen Liu et al.

Summary: Surface deformation in the Sichuan basin is influenced by two weak extension and compression episodes, leading to the formation of specific structures. The evolution of the basin appears to be controlled by deformation from its peripheral orogens rather than deep lithospheric and mantle processes.
