Highly-Tunable Intrinsic Room-Temperature Ferromagnetism in 2D van der Waals Semiconductor CrxGa1-xTe

Gaojie Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reports a vdW semiconductor CrxGa1-xTe crystal with tunable above-room-temperature ferromagnetism and a bandgap of 1.62-1.66 eV. The magnetic properties of CrxGa1-xTe crystals can be effectively regulated by tuning Cr content and changing the thickness, showing robust room-temperature ferromagnetism with a 2D quantum confinement effect. This work opens up a new avenue for preparing room-temperature 2D vdW ferromagnetic semiconductors.

Biaxial strain engineering of CVD and exfoliated single- and bi-layer MoS2 crystals

Antonios Michail et al.

Summary: Single- and bi-layer MoS2 are two-dimensional semiconductors that can withstand large deformations, making them suitable for strain engineering applications and flexible electronics. By transferring MoS2 crystals onto flexible substrates and subjecting them to biaxial tension, researchers were able to accurately measure thermomechanical parameters and study the relationship between material property and strain. The results, confirmed through in-situ monitoring and density functional theory calculations, highlight the potential of MoS2 for strain engineering applications.

Summary: The introduction of ferromagnetic order into layered Td-WTe2 through Cr doping allows for tuning the Curie temperature and ferromagnetic moment based on the concentration of Cr doping. The Cr-doped Td-WTe2 crystals maintain semimetallic behavior and exhibit large magnetoresistance with clear SdH quantum oscillations and an anomalous Hall effect, suggesting potential for controlling the topological phase of the material with external magnetic fields.

Tunable strongly coupled superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

Jeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Moire superlattices have become a platform for studying correlated physics and superconductivity with unprecedented tunability. This study on magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene reveals a better tunability of electronic structure and superconducting properties than magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, with implications for the understanding of strongly coupled superconductivity. The results suggest that the system can be electrically tuned close to the crossover to a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate, indicating the potential for revolutionizing applications of superconductivity.

Ultrafast Optically Induced Ferromagnetic State in an Elemental Antiferromagnet

E. Golias et al.

Summary: The study provides evidence for an ultrafast optically induced ferromagnetic alignment of antiferromagnetic Mn in Co/Mn multilayers. The transient ferromagnetic signal is observed at the arrival of the pump pulse at the Mn L-3 resonance, indicating a timescale comparable to the excitation duration. Theoretical calculations suggest that the emergence of this transient ferromagnetic state is due to the imbalanced population of Mn unoccupied states caused by the Co interface.

Strain modulation of magnetic properties of monolayer and bilayer FePS3 antiferromagnet

Jian-min Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of strain on the magnetism of monolayer and bilayer FePS3 antiferromagnets using first-principles calculations. The results show that compressive strain can enhance the magnetic anisotropy energy of monolayer FePS3, while tensile strain leads to a decrease-rise-decrease trend. The interlayer coupling of bilayer FePS3 is sensitive to strain and undergoes an antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic transition under strain.

Summary: Weyl semimetal Td-phase WTe2 with strong spin-orbit coupling is promising as a spin source material, and the generation of out-of-plane polarized spin in centimeter-scale CVD-grown thin films has been demonstrated. The in-plane and out-of-plane spin conductivities were found to be 7.36 x 10(3) (PLANCK CONSTANT OVER TWO PI/2e) (ohm m)(-1) and 1.76 x 10(3) (PLANCK CONSTANT OVER TWO PI/2e) (ohm m)(-1) in 5 nm-WTe2, respectively. Additionally, current-induced magnetization switching in WTe2/NiFe at room temperature suggests potential innovations in spintronic devices based on Weyl semimetals.
