Advances on liver cell-derived exosomes in liver diseases

Yan Jiao et al.

Summary: Exosomes are extracellular vesicles ranging in size from 30 to 150 nm, containing various proteins, mRNA, miRNA, and lipids which coordinate physiological and pathological functions through cell-to-cell communication. Specifically, liver cell-derived exosomes play a crucial role in both general physiological functions and the pathogenesis of liver diseases, making them potential diagnostic biomarkers and treatment targets.

Understanding the implication of autophagy in the activation of hepatic stellate cells in liver fibrosis: are we there yet?

Federico Lucantoni et al.

Summary: Liver fibrosis is a chronic liver disease that has a significant impact on public health and lacks specific pharmacological therapy. Hepatic stellate cells are fundamental mediators of fibrosis, with autophagy playing a key role in their activation. Autophagy has been shown to enhance the fibrogenic process and may serve as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment and prevention of liver fibrosis.

Hepatic stellate cell-derived exosomes modulate macrophage inflammatory response

Summary: The study showed that activation of HSCs leads to increased release of EXOs, which can stimulate macrophages to produce cytokines and promote macrophage migration. This suggests a communication mechanism between HSC-EXOs and macrophages.
