AMPK/SIRT1 Pathway is Involved in Arctigenin-Mediated Protective Effects Against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Cheng-Yin Liu et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrated that Arctigenin alleviated cardiomyocytes apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress induced by OGD through activating the AMPK/SIRT1 pathway and downregulating NF-kappa B phosphorylation. In animal experiments, Arctigenin improved heart functions and decreased infarct size in AMI/R-rats by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptotic levels in heart tissues while enhancing the AMPK/SIRT1 pathway and repressing the NF-kappa B pathway activation.
