Electrochemical top-down synthesis of C-supported Pt nano-particles with controllable shape and size: Mechanistic insights and application

Batyr Garlyyev et al.

Summary: A simple top-down electrochemical erosion approach has been demonstrated to obtain Pt nanoparticles with controlled shapes and sizes, without the use of surfactants. The size and shape of the particles can be changed by adjusting parameters such as applied potential, frequency, and electrolyte composition. Pt/C catalysts prepared by this method showed higher mass activity compared to state-of-the-art commercial Pt/C catalysts from Tanaka. Insights into the nanoparticle formation pathways were also discussed.
