Production of Trans-Cinnamic Acid by Immobilization of the Bambusa oldhamii BoPAL1 and BoPAL2 Phenylalanine Ammonia-Lyases on Electrospun Nanofibers

Pei-Yu Hong et al.

Summary: The study immobilized Bambusa oldhamii BoPAL1/2 proteins onto electrospun nanofibers and optimized the electrospinning parameters using response surface methodology, finding that eBoPAL2 exhibited the highest catalytic efficiency. The immobilized BoPAL proteins retained 75-83% activity after storage at 4°C for 30 days, showing significantly enhanced tolerance against denaturants.

Efficiency of chitosan application against Phytophthora infestans and the activation of defence mechanisms in potato

Kangkai Zheng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that chitosan can enhance potato resistance and reduce Phytophthora infestans infection by activating important plant defence response pathways. In addition, chitosan triggers pattern recognition immune responses, induces systemic resistance, and alters gene expression related to plant defence in potato. These findings provide insights into chitosan-mediated activation of the immune system in potato and offer a potential eco-friendly strategy for controlling late blight in the field.

SmKFB5 protein regulates phenolic acid biosynthesis by controlling the degradation of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase in Salvia miltiorrhiza

Haizheng Yu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that SmKFB5 in Salvia miltiorrhiza mediates the proteolytic turnover of PAL via the ubiquitin-26S proteasome pathway, negatively regulating phenolic acid accumulation. Additionally, methyl jasmonate enhances phenolic acid biosynthesis by consolidating both transcriptional and post-translational regulatory mechanisms.

NLIP and HAD-like Domains of Pah1 and Lipin 1 Phosphatidate Phosphatases Are Essential for Their Catalytic Activities

Wei-Hsin Hsu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the catalytic activity of Pah1 and Lipin 1 and their structural domains, revealing that the conserved N- and C-terminal domains are essential for the activity of Pah1. Removal of disordered hydrophilic regions significantly reduced the protein solubility of Pah1.

Robust, site-specifically immobilized phenylalanine ammonia-lyases for the enantioselective ammonia addition of cinnamic acids

Krisztina Boros et al.

Summary: Phenylalanine ammonia-lyases (PALs) catalyze the deamination of l-phenylalanine to trans-cinnamic acid, and can also function in the reverse reaction under high ammonia concentration. The development of highly stable and active immobilized PAL-biocatalysts onto single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was achieved through site-specific covalent immobilization.
