Adsorption of five emerging contaminants on activated carbon from aqueous medium: kinetic characteristics and computational modeling for plausible mechanism

Archana Rao et al.

Summary: Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) lack standard regulations for discharge, posing potential threats to ecology and humans. Conventional wastewater treatment plants are not effective in removing PPCPs, highlighting the need for cost-effective tertiary treatment methods. This study demonstrates the potential of using granular-activated carbon (GAC) for simultaneous removal of five PPCPs, with good adsorption efficiency and potential for computational prediction of uptake mechanisms.

Environmental exposure to 17β-trenbolone during adolescence inhibits social interaction in male mice

Shaozhi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that exposure to 17β-TBOH during adolescence activates the dopamine circuit in pubertal male balb/c mice, leading to increased anxiety-like behavior and negative effects on social interaction behavior and control of wheel-running behavior. Exposure also reduces dopamine axon growth in the medial prefrontal cortex and affects the balance of excitatory/inhibitory signals.

Adsorption of three pesticides on polyethylene microplastics in aqueous solutions: Kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics, and molecular dynamics simulation

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption characteristics of three pesticides on polyethylene microplastics under different conditions. The results showed that pH and NaCl salinity significantly affected the adsorption, which was mainly controlled by physical forces. The thermodynamic study indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, exothermic, and favored by elevated temperature.

Ecotoxicological assessment of micropollutant Diclofenac biosorption on magnetic sawdust: Phyto, Microbial and Fish toxicity studies

V. Vishnu Priyan et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic sawdust (MSD) was prepared for biosorptive removal of DCF from water and characterized using various analytical techniques. Ecotoxicological assessment showed adverse effects of DCF on plant seeds, microbes, and zebra fish, while a significant increase in DCF concentration after biosorption was observed.

Biochar Nanoparticles over TiO2 Nanotube Arrays: A Green Co-Catalyst to Boost the Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Marco Pinna et al.

Summary: The use of biochar nanoparticles as co-catalysts significantly enhances the photocatalytic degradation activity of TiO2 nanotube arrays towards the organic pollutant methylene blue, mainly influenced by the amount of biochar deposition. By optimizing the biochar deposition conditions, the photocatalytic degradation rate of methylene blue can be increased by approximately three times.
