Evolution of atomic-scale dispersion of FeNx in hierarchically porous 3D air electrode to boost the interfacial electrocatalysis of oxygen reduction in PEMFC

Xiaogang Fu et al.

Summary: Metal-nitrogen-carbon materials have great potential for catalyzing the oxygen reduction reaction in proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, but suffer from low density of active sites and mass transfer limitations. A new ZIF8-derived Fe-N-C catalyst/electrode design addresses these issues through controlled dispersion of FeNx moieties and unique porous micro-spheric morphology, resulting in improved performance and peak power density.

Coordination environment dependent selectivity of single-site-Cu enriched crystalline porous catalysts in CO2 reduction to CH4

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the ECR selectivity depends strongly on the Cu site coordination environment in crystalline porous catalysts, with Cu-DBC showing higher selectivity and activity due to the lower energy barriers of Cu-O-4 sites during the ECR process. This provides a platform for constructing highly selective ECR catalysts with potential applications in the energy conversion field.

Strongly stabilized integrated bimetallic oxide of Fe2O3-MoO3 Nano-crystal entrapped N-doped graphene as a superior oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalyst

Kakali Maiti et al.

Summary: This study focused on the synthesis of a Fe2O3-MoO3/NG core-shell catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells, which demonstrated excellent catalytic activity and long-term durability, as well as better methanol tolerance. The unique synergistic interactions of bimetallic Fe2O3-MoO3 and nitrogen-doped graphene support contribute to enhancing catalytic activity. The Fe2O3-MoO3/NG core-shell structure shows high potential to be an efficient non-precious electrocatalyst with promising applications in electrochemical energy conversion and storage.

Recent progress of electrospun porous carbon-based nanofibers for oxygen electrocatalysis

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: Noble metals are efficient in oxygen electrocatalysis but limited by scarcity and poor durability, leading to a search for alternatives such as 1D porous carbon-based materials. Electrospinning technology offers a promising strategy for creating porous carbon-based nanofibers with more active sites, high conductivity, and good mechanical strength. The challenges and future prospects of electrospun porous carbon-based nanofibers for electrocatalytic applications are discussed in this review.

Improving the Stability of Non-Noble-Metal M-N-C Catalysts for Proton-Exchange-Membrane Fuel Cells through M-N Bond Length and Coordination Regulation

Zhengpei Miao et al.

Summary: An effective strategy is developed to enhance the stability of non-noble-metal catalysts in fuel cells by improving the bonding strength between metal ions and chelating polymers. The optimized catalyst exhibits outstanding activity and stability in both half-cell and fuel cell cathodes, with near 100% retention of current density for an extended period. The study suggests that the Fe-N-4/C site can strongly stabilize Fe centers against demetalation, providing insights for further catalyst design.
