The Path to 20% Power Conversion Efficiencies in Nonfullerene Acceptor Organic Solar Cells

Akchheta Karki et al.

Summary: The recent progress highlights how pairing new nonfullerene electron acceptors with suitable high-performing polymer electron donors has significantly improved the power conversion efficiencies of single-junction organic solar cells. Studies on the device photophysics of high performing polymer:NFA blends demonstrate the importance of morphology on efficiency, and further challenges need to be addressed in order to achieve PCEs of over 20% in NFA OSCs.

Temperature and Light Modulated Open-Circuit Voltage in Nonfullerene Organic Solar Cells with Different Effective Bandgaps

Viktor V. Brus et al.

Summary: The relationship between the temperature-light intensity dependence of open-circuit voltage V-oc in nonfullerene-based organic solar cells and the material characteristics and multimechanism recombination parameters was investigated. By systematically varying the effective bandgap E-g, E-eff and the electrode layers, different contributions of bimolecular, bulk, and surface trap-assisted recombination mechanisms were observed. The analytical model and voltage-impedance spectroscopy technique provide a useful tool to quantify multimechanism recombination parameters, effective density of states N-c, and energetic disorder sigma in organic solar cells under operating conditions. The proposed model's validity in understanding the temperature and light intensity dependence of V-oc was demonstrated by applying it to four different donor:nonfullerene acceptor blend systems with conventional or inverted device architectures.

The minimal sampling frequency of the photoplethysmogram for accurate pulse rate variability parameters in healthy volunteers

Szabolcs Beres et al.

Summary: The study found that a sampling frequency of 5 Hz may be sufficient for monitoring average heart rate in healthy subjects, while accurate HRV analysis requires higher sampling rates. Interpolation techniques can improve HRV accuracy from lower temporal resolution PPG signals.

Carrier Blocking Layer Materials and Application in Organic Photodetectors

Yi Li et al.

Summary: Organic photodetectors (OPDs), as a promising candidate for next-generation photodetectors, have attracted increasing interest due to their cost-effective fabrication methods and tunable spectral response range. Engineering carrier blocking layers is crucial for enhancing the performance of OPDs, by selectively collecting certain charge carriers and suppressing others. This review summarizes various materials for carrier blocking layers and recent progress in OPDs, providing guidelines for improving OPD performance through carrier blocking layers engineering.

Non-fullerene-based organic photodetectors for infrared communication

Maxime Babics et al.

Summary: A new ultra-low bandgap non-fullerene acceptor has been developed, with a maximum responsivity of 0.50 A W-1 at 890 nm in a solution-processed organic photodetector. The device exhibits high and balanced mobilities, resulting in fast response to infrared light and minor damping in the IR communication range. The organic photodetector accurately transmits messages emitted at around 910 nm, demonstrating the potential for organic electronics in infrared communication.
