Towards an enriched framework of service evaluation for pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure: acknowledging the power of users' perceptions

Alvaro Rodriguez-Valencia et al.

Summary: This study proposes and validates a framework to explain the QoS in segment roadways in urban environments for active modes. By considering the contribution of individual perceptions to the traditional supply-oriented variables, it enhances the understanding of the perceived QoS of pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure.

An evacuation simulation method based on an improved artificial bee colony algorithm and a social force model

Yuan Zhao et al.

Summary: Simulation modeling is a crucial tool for studying crowd behavior and exploring emergency evacuation management methods. This paper proposes a new evacuation simulation method combining an improved artificial bee colony algorithm for dynamic path planning and SFM for simulating pedestrian movement, providing pedestrians with timely route selection. The new method shows superior performance in evacuating dense crowds efficiently in multiple scenarios and effectively shortening evacuation time.

Contrasting the recommendations of participatory value evaluation and cost-benefit analysis in the context of urban mobility investments

Niek Mouter et al.

Summary: Participatory Value Evaluation (PVE) and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) are two methods used to assess the desirability of government projects. This study investigates whether these methods lead to different policy recommendations in the context of urban mobility investments. Findings suggest that projects focusing on traffic safety and improvements for cyclists/pedestrians rank higher in PVE, while car projects rank higher in CBA analysis.

Case comparison of typical transit-oriented-development stations in Tokyo district in the context of sustainability: Spatial visualization analysis based on FAHP and GIS

Lu Ke et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the concept of Sustainable TODness, a comprehensive index that evaluates the sustainability of TOD stations based on environmental, economic, social, and transportation efficiency dimensions. Through spatial analysis of 13 TOD stations in the Tokyo metropolitan area, stations were categorized into three groups based on their performance in different dimensions. The research method is proposed to be applicable for sustainability evaluation of TOD sites worldwide, providing new insights for urban development and land use in the future.

Risk Evaluation for Conflicts between Crossing Pedestrians and Right-Turning Vehicles at Intersections

Feifei Xin et al.

Summary: The study proposed a quantitative method for evaluating the conflict risk between pedestrians and right-turning vehicles at intersections based on micro-level behavioral data obtained from video detection. Using MATLAB, several conflict indicators were extracted automatically to identify and classify conflicts, leading to the proposal of practical traffic management and control measures to reduce pedestrian crossing risks.

Fuzzy Grey Choquet Integral for Evaluation of Multicriteria Decision Making Problems With Interactive and Qualitative Indices

Guangdong Tian et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel fuzzy grey Choquet integral (FGCI) method to evaluate MCDM problems with many interactive and qualitative indices. Through defuzzification, standardization, and an improved teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm, the proposed method effectively eliminates the influence of experts' subjective preference and enhances the consistency of weights for evaluation. By aggregating correlation coefficients through Choquet integral among lambda-fuzzy-measures, interactions among indices are reflected and the feasibility and effectiveness of the method are validated through a practical example.

Comparative analysis of traffic-and-transportation-planning-related indicators in sustainable transportation infrastructure rating systems

Nam Hoai Tran et al.

Summary: The study conducted a comparative analysis of five rating systems, revealing that Green Guides for Roads allocates the highest percentage of total points to TTPIs, while Infrastructure Voluntary Evaluation Sustainability Tool allocates the lowest percentage to TTPIs. Within the TTPFs of transportation projects, pedestrian paths and bicycle facilities are considered to have a significant contribution to project sustainability.
