Use of environmental product declarations (EPDs) of pavement materials in the United States of America (USA) to ensure environmental impact reductions

Summary: This study investigates the use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in green public procurement initiatives in the U.S.A. to ensure environmental improvements in materials and pavements. It was found that the effectiveness of EPDs in ensuring environmental improvements of materials depends on EPD consistency and PCR prescriptiveness. EPDs can also serve as data sources in pavement life cycle assessments due to their availability, transparency, and facilitation of collaboration throughout the supply chain.
