Summary: An efficient chemical synthesis route is proposed for achieving ultrahigh nitrogen (N)-doping level in carbon materials and an ultrahigh doping level up to 13.5 at % is realized. The dominant pyridinic N is demonstrated to have a significant effect on the adsorption of I-2.
