Miniaturized probe on polymer SU-8 with array of individually addressable microelectrodes for electrochemical analysis in neural and other biological tissues

Mahsa Lotfi Marchoubeh et al.

Summary: The SU-8 probe with an array of nine individually addressable gold microband electrodes was used for detecting low concentrations of chemicals and studying biological tissues. The probe, flexible but sharp, could be inserted into soft tissue without noticeable damage. Redox cycling using adjacent electrodes allowed signal amplification without background subtraction, providing information on electrochemical mechanisms and kinetics. Detection limits for specific compounds were successfully obtained.

Manufacturable 32-Channel Cochlear Electrode Array and Preliminary Assessment of Its Feasibility for Clinical Use

Soowon Shin et al.

Summary: A manufacturable 32-channel cochlear electrode array is introduced in this study, which is manufactured by semi-automated laser micro-structuring and a mass-produced layer-by-layer silicone deposition scheme. The feasibility of the electrode array is assessed through electrochemical evaluation, stiffness measurements, and insertion force measurements, showing promising results for further development.

Biocompatibility of SU-8 and Its Biomedical Device Applications

Ziyu Chen et al.

Summary: SU-8, an epoxy-based negative-tone photoresist, has been widely used in fabricating biomedical devices. Despite its not complete biocompatibility, existing surface modification techniques can minimize biofouling. With proper treatments and surface modifications, SU-8 can be a unique choice for biomedical device fabrication.
