Effects of cutting edge radius in vibration assisted micro machining

Shamsul Arefin et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of considering the cutting edge radius in microscale machining for understanding tool-workpiece contact relationships and cutting mechanisms. Experimental and finite element simulation results show that variations in the cutting edge radius affect chip thickness, cutting forces, and surface quality in both 1D and 2D VAM processes.

Modelling and experimental investigation of temperature field during fly-cutting of KDP crystals

Li Chen et al.

Summary: A theoretical model on the temperature field during fly-cutting of KDP crystals with the assistance of coolant lubrication was established, showing that oil coolant can effectively increase thermal diffusivity and decrease cutting temperature. Both simulated and experimental results indicated that the highest cutting temperature is influenced by factors such as feed speed, cutting depth, and cutting speed.

Modeling of force and temperature in cutting of particle reinforced metal matrix composites considering particle effects

Wei Sun et al.

Summary: This study focused on the influence of particles on cutting force and temperature in particle reinforced metal matrix composites (PRMMCs) machining. Analytical models for force and temperature were developed, incorporating particle effects and validated against experimental results. The findings showed that considering particle effects in the models resulted in more accurate predictions, with the analysis highlighting the complex interplay between particle content, shear strength, and tool face temperature in PRMMCs cutting.

Simulation of the chip morphology together with its evolution in machining of Inconel 718 by considering widely spread cutting speed

Chun Liu et al.

Summary: This study established a finite element method (FEM) model to characterize and classify chip morphologies of Inconel 718, revealing a transition of chip patterns from smooth to serrated with increasing cutting speed, as well as the disappearance of chip serration at higher speeds. The research provides insights into the metal cutting process of Inconel 718 and offers a theoretical framework for chip generation across a range of cutting speeds.

Research on the burr-free interrupted cutting model of metals

Fenghe Wu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on active burr control technology to prevent burr formation during cutting. A new burr-free theoretical model was established by analyzing burr formation, showing that changing the exit surface angle of the workpiece is key to achieving burr-free interrupted cutting. Both simulation and cutting experiment of aluminum alloy 7075-T651 confirmed the effectiveness of the derived theoretical model for burr prevention.
