Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer with 99mTc-Tilmanocept: A Multicenter Study on Real-Life Use of a Novel Tracer

Sergi Vidal-Sicart et al.

Summary: Tc-99m-tilmanocept demonstrated good results in a heterogeneous breast cancer population, with the best outcomes achieved when a superficial injection was chosen. The lymphoscintigraphy showed higher SLN detection rates in patients with normal weight compared to overweight or obese patients. Additionally, injection site and tumor markers had an impact on preoperative SLN visualization and intraoperative localization.

Phototriggered Aggregation-Induced Emission and Direct Generation of 4D Soft Patterns

Huilin Xie et al.

Summary: This study reports a strategy for achieving remote spatio-temporal control of luminescence behaviors through a non-contact way. By changing the metal-ion species, the fluorescence emission and intensity can be tuned, and the mechanism of UV-mediated fluorescence change, including the phototriggered aggregation-induced emission (PTAIE) process, is investigated. The findings demonstrate opportunities for the development of controllable smart materials and expand the scope of the materials in advanced optoelectronic applications.

Paying attention to tumor blood vessels: Cancer phototherapy assisted with nano delivery strategies

Shan Yang et al.

Summary: This review discusses cancer phototherapy strategies based on tumor blood vessels, emphasizing the dual role of tumor vessels as both anti-tumor targets and part of the delivery process. It highlights the interplay between photo-induced extensive effects and the complicated drug delivery process, as well as the need for further research on the interconnection between tumor vessels and cancer phototherapy. More sophisticated and intelligent nano delivery systems are expected to maximize the potential of this therapeutic strategy.

Density of surface charge is a more predictive factor of the toxicity of cationic carbon nanoparticles than zeta potential

Maud Weiss et al.

Summary: This study clearly demonstrates that the surface charge density of a cationic carbon NP rather than the absolute value of its zeta-potential is a relevant descriptor of its in vitro and in vivo toxicity. The study found that among the cationic carbon NPs examined, only NP5 and NP6 with the highest surface charge density induced significant oxidative stress, IL-8 release, mitochondrial dysfunction, and loss in lysosomal integrity in cells. Additionally, NP5 and NP6 were the only NPs to induce airway inflammation in mice, with NP5 also increasing allergen-induced immune response, airway inflammation, and mucus production.

Summary: A novel nanoplatform was developed in this study, which can achieve high-efficient tumor-specific catalytic anticancer treatment in acidic tumor microenvironments through a cyclic amplification strategy, leading to enhanced Fenton-like reaction. Ultimately, this smart nanoplatform enables self-boosting generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), inducing strong intracellular oxidative stress, and resulting in substantial anticancer outcomes in vivo.

Summary: Primary lymphedema is a chronic condition characterized by tissue lymph retention and swelling, often affecting any part of the body. Dysfunction in the lymphatic system can have wide-ranging effects on immune function, cancer development, and fat transport. Genetic studies have shown primary lymphedema to be heterogenous in genetic causes and disease mechanisms.

α-Fe2O3@Pt heterostructure particles to enable sonodynamic therapy with self-supplied O2 and imaging-guidance

Tian Zhang et al.

Summary: Alpha-Fe2O3@Pt nanoparticles show superior ROS generation due to their unique heterostructure, which effectively suppresses the recombination of sono-induced electrons and holes. Additionally, the composite nanoparticles can trigger reoxygenation to provide sufficient oxygen for ROS induction under hypoxic conditions, while also playing an extra role in ultrasound imaging. This study demonstrates a highly potential platform for ultrasound-driven tumor theranostics, potentially leading to further explorations in therapeutic systems with more rational material design.
