Functionalized (4,0) or (8,0) SWCNT as novel carriers of the anticancer drug 5-FU; A first-principle investigation

N. Ershadi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic properties of metallic or semiconductive carbon nanotubes in combination with the anticancer drug 5-FU. It is found that chloromethylated (8,0) SWCNT releases the most energy and exhibits substantial magnetization, making it the most suitable carrier for 5-FU. The combination acts as a bipolar semiconductor and can be guided by both magnetic and electric fields.

A novel high-performance methane sensor based on Ti-Decorated 2D γ-graphyne: A dispersion-corrected DFT insight

Samira Nikmanesh et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of methane adsorption on the electronic properties of titanium-decorated gamma-GY using dispersion-corrected density functional theory. It shows that methane is physisorbed on gamma-GY while titanium provides chemisorption sites for methane molecules. The electronic bandgap of titanium-decorated gamma-GY decreases upon methane adsorption, indicating high sensing efficiency for CH4 gas.

Magnetic bipolarity and other electronic aspects of (4,4) silicon carbide nanotubes ((4,4)SiCNT) decorated by light noble metals; (Cu, Ag)

M. Khalifeh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in structural and electronic properties of (4,4)SiCNT induced by decoration with copper or silver atoms. It is found that the decoration causes a bulging in the nanotube, breaking the structural symmetry and leading to the formation of ferromagnetic bipolar semiconductors. Additionally, the electronic effective masses are significantly larger, and the magnetic properties of the compounds can be tuned by applying gate potentials.

Reevaluation of the electronic structure and thermoelectric properties of narrow-gap semiconducting α-SrSi2: A complementary experimental and first-principles hybrid-functional approach

Daishi Shiojiri et al.

Summary: The study synthesized a high-purity alpha-SrSi2 crystal using the vertical Bridgman method and estimated the bandgap to be 13.1meV. Theoretical calculations predicted a bandgap value very close to this, and the temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient matched well with experimental results.
