Rational design of phosphonate/quaternary amine block polymer as an high-efficiency antibacterial coating for metallic substrates

Li Liu et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel phosphonate/quaternary amine block polymer as a high-efficiency antibacterial coating for metallic substrates, showing significant antibacterial rates against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli without causing significant cytotoxicity to cells. The polymer can be easily constructed on various bio-metals with improved antibacterial properties, suggesting its generality for surface antibacterial modification of bio-metals.

Superamphiphilic zwitterionic block copolymer surfactant-assisted fabrication of polyamide thin-film composite membrane with highly enhanced desalination performance

Kyung Hwa Jung et al.

Summary: The water-soluble superamphiphilic block copolymer surfactant PSbPDz improves water wettability on the support layers and increases the interface area between the aqueous and organic phase, while also enhancing the roughness of the PA selective layer. As a result, the RO membrane fabricated with PSbPDz shows significantly larger water permeance value and maintains high salt rejection value compared to the neat RO membrane.

Antifouling Antioxidant Zwitterionic Dextran Hydrogels as Wound Dressing Materials with Excellent Healing Activities

Xia Qiu et al.

Summary: Dextran-based hydrogels with zwitterionic structures showed faster wound healing rates compared to natural dextran hydrogel and commercial dressings, attributed to their protein resistance and ability to scavenge free radicals. These hydrogels also demonstrated excellent cytocompatibility and antibacterial properties, along with self-healing capabilities for irregular wounds, providing a new pathway for multifunctional polysaccharide hydrogels in wound treatment and pain relief during dressing changes.

Zwitterion-Based Hydrogen Sulfide Nanomotors Induce Multiple Acidosis in Tumor Cells by Destroying Tumor Metabolic Symbiosis

Mimi Wan et al.

Summary: The destruction of tumor metabolism symbiosis is an attractive cancer treatment method that targets tumor cells with little harm to normal cells. The proposed zero-waste zwitterion-based hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-driven nanomotor shows promising potential in inducing acidosis of tumor cells and inhibiting tumor growth through a synergistic effect in the tumor microenvironment. This nanomotor may offer a competitive candidate for active drug delivery systems in cancer treatment due to its good biosafety and limited variety of available nanomotors for tumor microenvironment movement.

Salt-Dependent Phase Transition Behavior of Doubly Thermoresponsive Poly(sulfobetaine)-Based Diblock Copolymer Thin Films

Lucas P. Kreuzer et al.

Summary: This study investigates the water vapor-induced swelling and phase transition kinetics of thin films of a diblock copolymer. The addition of salt has different effects on the non-ionic block and the zwitterionic block, significantly increasing water incorporation and affecting the swelling temperature of the zwitterionic block.
