Effect of plastic deformation on microstructure and thermoelectric properties of Mg2Sn alloys

Rameshkumar Varma et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of deformation on microstructure and thermoelectric properties of Mg2Sn alloys with excess magnesium concentrations was investigated. The alloys showed high plasticity at elevated temperatures, forming a substructure, and the thermoelectric performance was improved due to reduced thermal conductivity from phonon scattering at grain boundaries.

Thermoelectric Performance Enhancement in BiSbTe Alloy by Microstructure Modulation via Cyclic Spark Plasma Sintering with Liquid Phase

Hua-Lu Zhuang et al.

Summary: The study emphasizes the importance of the synthesis process for achieving high performance in Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric materials. By applying cyclic spark plasma liquid phase sintering, a unique microstructure with enlarged grains and abundant nanostructures can be formed, leading to high charge carrier mobility and low lattice thermal conductivity. This results in a significantly higher ZT value compared to conventionally spark-plasma-sintered materials.

Realizing p-type Mg2Sn Thermoelectrics via Ga-Doping and Point Defect Engineering

Zhicheng Huang et al.

Summary: The addition of Ga as a dopant in Mg2Sn can change its conduction type from n-type to p-type, leading to an increase in the magnesium vacancy fraction and the introduction of hole carriers. This doping strategy results in a lower total thermal conductivity at a certain concentration, contributing to the improvement of thermoelectric material performance.

Optimization of the Thermoelectric Properties of p-Type Mg2-yLiyGe1-xSnx and Mg2-yLiyGe1-zSiz with x, z=0.1 and 0.2

Vidushi Galwadu Arachchige et al.

Summary: Recent investigations have found that p-type Mg2Ge exhibits superior thermoelectric properties compared to p-type binaries. By alloying Si or Sn into the Ge site, further optimization can be achieved to lower thermal conductivity. Samples rich in Ge show similar temperature-dependent behavior in electronic properties to p-type Mg2Ge, while samples containing Si have achieved the highest reported figure of merit so far in the p-type Mg-2(Ge,Si) systems.
