T-duality in nonrelativistic open string theory

Jaume Gomis et al.

Summary: The T-duality transformations in nonrelativistic open string theory map it to relativistic and noncommutative open string theory in the discrete light cone quantization (DLCQ), revealing the connections between them. The worldvolume dynamics of nonrelativistic open string theory is also studied, showing mappings to Dirac-Born-Infeld actions in DLCQ and noncommutative open string theory.

A non-relativistic limit of M-theory and 11-dimensional membrane Newton-Cartan geometry

Chris D. A. Blair et al.

Summary: This paper explores the non-relativistic limit of the bosonic sector of eleven-dimensional supergravity, leading to a theory based on a covariant 'membrane Newton-Cartan' (MNC) geometry that generalizes the ten-dimensional stringy Newton-Cartan (SNC) theory under Galilean symmetries. The study reveals a set of equations that are invariant under longitudinal and transverse rotations, Galilean boosts, and local dilatations, supplemented by an extra Poisson equation from the subleading action. Additionally, reduction along different directions results in known and new non-relativistic theories associated with D2 branes in the MNC framework.

Nonrelativistic open string and Yang-Mills theory

Jaume Gomis et al.

Summary: The classical and quantum worldsheet theory describing nonrelativistic open string theory in an arbitrary nonrelativistic open and closed string background is constructed. The low energy dynamics of open strings ending on coincident D-branes in flat spacetime is described by a Galilean invariant U(n) Yang-Mills theory. Nonrelativistic open string excitations with winding number show that their dynamics can be encoded into a local gauge theory in one higher dimension.

Non-Riemannian isometries from double field theory

Chris D. A. Blair et al.

Summary: This paper explores isometries in non-Riemannian geometries, focusing on backgrounds of non-relativistic string theory and their description using double field theory formalism. The study shows that constant flat non-Riemannian backgrounds have an infinite-dimensional algebra of isometries, including a specific type of supertranslations. It also discusses the extension to supersymmetric double field theory and the existence of supersupersymmetries that square to supertranslations.

A non-relativistic limit of NS-NS gravity

E. A. Bergshoeff et al.

Summary: The discussion focuses on a specific non-relativistic limit of NS-NS gravity that can be achieved at the level of the action and equations of motion without imposing any geometric constraints manually. The cancellation of divergences between terms that arise from the Vielbein in the Einstein-Hilbert term and from the kinetic term of the Kalb-Ramond two-form field is key to this limit. This leads to the emergence of a local target space scale invariance in the limit, resulting in an extra equation in the equations of motion compared to the action limit. The geometric constraints that can be solved by scale-invariant constraints define a Dilatation invariant String Newton-Cartan geometry.

Torsional deformation of nonrelativistic string theory

Ziqi Yan

Summary: Nonrelativistic string theory is a self-contained branch of string theory, characterized by specific symmetry principles and target-space geometry. Defined by a renormalizable quantum nonlinear sigma model in curved spacetime, this theory may have applications in supersymmetrizations.

Non-Riemannian gravity actions from double field theory

A. D. Gallegos et al.

Summary: This technical note utilizes the formulation of double field theory to construct actions for various non-Riemannian gravitational theories, removing ambiguities in the corresponding equations of motion. The derived actions include Torsional Newton-Cartan gravity, Carrollian gravity, and String Newton-Cartan gravity, which are compared with previously obtained results in literature.
