General Relativistic Simulations of the Quasicircular Inspiral and Merger of Charged Black Holes: GW150914 and Fundamental Physics Implications

Gabriele Bozzola et al.

Summary: The study shows that the inspiral is most efficient for detecting black hole charge through gravitational waves, and GW150914 may have a charge-to-mass ratio as high as 0.3. The results of the research are applicable to theories with black holes endowed with electric and magnetic charge as well as U(1) (hidden or dark) charges.

The multipolar structure of fuzzballs

Massimo Bianchi et al.

Summary: We have extended and refined a general method to extract the multipole moments of various stationary spacetimes, particularly focusing on a family of regular horizonless solutions in N=2 four-dimensional supergravity theory. These microstate geometries exhibit a richer multipole structure than Kerr black holes and break the axial and equatorial symmetry.

Black holes lessons from multipole ratios

Iosif Bena et al.

Summary: The article explains how to calculate the gravitational mass and angular momentum multipoles of the most general non-extremal four-dimensional black hole, as well as for generic supersymmetric four-dimensional microstate geometries and multi-center solutions. While many multipoles vanish for Kerr black holes and BPS black holes, embedding them in String Theory and deforming them slightly can yield an infinite set of ratios of vanishing multipoles that remain finite and independent of the direction of deformation.

Black holes and the swampland: the deep throat revelations

Yixuan Li

Summary: The study reveals a connection between the scaling limit of microstate geometries and the Swampland Distance Conjecture. The naive extension of the Distance Conjecture suggests that the length of the throat determines the distance between points in moduli space.

Black-hole microstate spectroscopy: Ringdown, quasinormal modes, and echoes

Taishi Ikeda et al.

Summary: This passage discusses the fuzzball paradigm in string theory as a way to address conceptual problems associated with classical black holes, and describes the numerical simulations of scalar field propagation on a large class of multicenter geometries with no spatial isometries. The results show evidence for the dynamical linear stability of fuzzballs and pave the way for accurate discrimination between fuzzballs and black holes using gravitational-wave spectroscopy.

Can different black holes cast the same shadow?

Haroldo C. D. Lima Junior et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the possibility of two different black holes projecting exactly the same shadow, presenting the necessary and sufficient conditions for a static black hole to have the same shadow as Schwarzschild. It categorizes shadow-degenerate geometries into two classes and provides examples in both static and axi-symmetric cases. The examples demonstrate that nonisometric black hole spacetimes can cast the same shadow, although the lensing is generally different.
