Gravitational waves from the fragmentation of axion-like particle dark matter

Aleksandr Chatrchyan et al.

Summary: The misalignment mechanism efficiently produces light scalar bosons, making them an appealing dark matter candidate. However, in certain cases, self-interactions of these bosons can lead to fragmentation and production of gravitational waves. The stochastic GW background produced from this process can be enhanced by an extended ultrarelativistic phase, but is limited by the requirement that the dark matter remains sufficiently cold. In some cases, the resulting GWs may be detectable by future GW detectors, providing a complementary probe of this type of dark matter.

Self-organised localisation

Gian F. Giudice et al.

Summary: Self-organised localisation is a new phenomenon in quantum cosmology that can explain the near-criticality of the Higgs self-coupling, the naturalness of the Higgs mass, or the smallness of the cosmological constant by probabilistically localising theory parameters around critical values during inflation.

Structure formation limits on axion-like dark matter

Sven Baumholzer et al.

Summary: In this study, structure formation limits on dark matter composed of keV-scale axion-like particles are derived, with a focus on freeze-in production through interactions with photons and SM fermions. The results show that for the photophobic ALP scenario, where DM primarily couples to SM fermions, weaker constraints on DM mass can be obtained, indicating potential for a wider range of mass values. Future facilities like the Vera C. Rubin observatory are expected to significantly improve current bounds on DM mass, potentially reaching up to 80 keV.

The art of simulating the early universe. Part I. Integration techniques and canonical cases

Daniel G. Figueroa et al.

Summary: In this paper, lattice techniques for simulating scalar and gauge field dynamics in an expanding universe are comprehensively discussed. The discretization of field theories, numerical algorithms, and lattice formulations for interacting scalar fields and gauge theories are presented. Symplectic integrators with different accuracy levels are provided for each case, along with relevant observables and constraints. The article also introduces the theoretical basis for the CosmoLattice code, a MPI-based package for simulating the non-linear evolution of field theories in an expanding universe.

Gravitational waves from an axion-dark photon system: A lattice study

Wolfram Ratzinger et al.

Summary: This study presents a lattice study of an axion-dark photon system in the early Universe and predicts the GW background spectrum. The study finds that the GW spectrum has more power at high momenta and that the degree of polarization depends on the coupling size. The relic abundance of ALP may be significantly suppressed.

Weak scale as a trigger

Nima Arkani-Hamed et al.

Summary: The article examines the impact of the Higgs mass parameter on the expectation value of local operators in the Standard Model, exploring scenarios where the Higgs mass parameters can act as triggers for certain local operators. It introduces a type-0 two Higgs doublet model and discusses a potential explanation for the origin of the weak scale involving extremely light, weakly interacting scalars. This weak scale trigger links the tuning of the Higgs mass to that of the cosmological constant, while coherent oscillations of the 0i can constitute dark matter.
