Methyl jasmonate alleviates the reduced release of aroma-related esters in 'Nanguo' pears by regulating ethylene biosynthesis and signal transduction

Xiao-chen Yin et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that exogenous methyl jasmonate (MeJA) can enhance the synthesis of aromatic esters in 'Nanguo' pears by regulating the activity and expression of enzymes involved in ethylene biosynthesis, indicating a close connection between MeJA, ethylene production, and aroma enhancement in fruits.

Identification and expression of the BAHD family during development, ripening, and stress response in banana

Yun Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified 46 banana BAHD genes (MaBAHDs) and categorized them into four groups. The MaBAHD genes showed similar expression patterns in two banana varieties, with more genes highly expressed in the roots. The comprehensive analysis of MaBAHD genes provided valuable insight into their roles in fruit development, ripening, and response to stress, laying a foundation for further gene functional studies and genetic improvement of banana cultivars.

Site-directed mutagenesis identified the key active site residues of alcohol acyltransferase PpAAT1 responsible for aroma biosynthesis in peach fruits

Zhi-Zhong Song et al.

Summary: The study focused on the biosynthesis of peach fruit aroma compounds, specifically gamma -decalactone and ester compounds catalyzed by PpAAT1. Through site-directed mutagenesis, it was found that key amino acid residues like H165 and D376 play critical roles in enzymatic activity and biosynthesis of these compounds. This knowledge could guide molecular breeding for developing new peach species with enhanced aromas preferred by consumers.

Characterization of evolutionarily distinct rice BAHD-Acyltransferases provides insight into their plausible role in rice susceptibility to Rhizoctonia solani

Gulshan Kumar et al.

Summary: This study characterized the rice (Oryza sativa L.) BAHD-acyltransferase (BAHD-AT) genes and suggested they may have a negative role in rice tolerance against Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA, possibly mediated through the brassinosteroid (BR) signaling pathway. The researchers identified 85 OsBAHD-AT genes in rice and classified them into five clades based on their phylogenetic relationship with characterized BAHD-ATs from other plant species. Time-course RNA sequencing and DNA methylation analyses revealed higher expression and hypomethylation of OsBAHD-AT genes in susceptible rice genotypes.
