Ridge-furrow with plastic film mulching system decreases the lodging risk for summer maize plants under different nitrogen fertilization rates and varieties in dry semi-humid areas

Changzhen Li et al.

Summary: The ridge-furrow with plastic film mulching system can increase maize lodging risk compared to traditional planting methods, but it can also decrease lodging rate and improve lodging resistance compared to traditional irrigation planting. Increasing stalk strength, decreasing center of gravity height and plant height are important factors in reducing lodging rate and should be considered in future maize breeding programs.
