Expression and function of the cdgD gene, encoding a CHASE-PAS-DGC-EAL domain protein, in Azospirillum brasilense

Jose Francisco Cruz-Perez et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the function and expression of the cdgD gene in the plant growth-promoting bacterium Azospirillum brasilense, revealing that the protein encoded by this gene plays a crucial role in biofilm formation and motility in bacteria. Reduced cellular concentration of cyclic-di-GMP in the mutant strain compared to the wild-type strain was observed, and the gene expression was influenced by the nitrogen source in the growth medium. Additionally, the cdgD gene was found to be expressed in both abiotic conditions and in association with wheat roots, impacting the colonization of wheat roots by the bacterium.

A Trigger Phosphodiesterase Modulates the Global c-di-GMP Pool, Motility, and Biofilm Formation in Vibrio parahaemolyticus

Raquel Martinez-Mendez et al.

Summary: The previously uncharacterized c-di-GMP phosphodiesterase VP1881 in Vibrio parahaemolyticus, named TpdA, plays a crucial role in modulating the c-di-GMP pool, affecting swimming, swarming motility, and biofilm formation. Changes in TpdA abundance alter the expression of flagellar genes and biofilm-related genes. Autoactivation of the native P-tpdA promoter alters c-di-GMP signaling responses, potentially impacting social behaviors in V. parahaemolyticus.

Summary: The study revealed that RpoN plays a crucial role in regulating biofilm formation in root-associated diazotrophic P. stutzeri A1501 by directly activating the transcription of key genes. Additionally, RsmZ acts as a signal amplifier to trigger biofilm formation, while RpoS exerts a braking effect on biofilm formation.
