Pollen development in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is highly sensitive to heat exposure during the tetrad stage

Farhad Masoomi-Aladizgeh et al.

Summary: The development of plant gametes is highly sensitive to heatwaves, even lasting for just a few days, adversely affecting pollen maturation and reproductive success. Exposure to heat at 40 degrees Celsius can significantly reduce pollen size after the tetrad stage and decrease cotton boll production by 65%. Interestingly, levels of sugar in pollen grains increase after exposure to heat, ruling out carbohydrate deficits as a likely cause of poor reproductive capacity.

An overview of heat stress in tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.)

Muhammed Alsamir et al.

Summary: Heat stress has a permanent impact on plant growth and development by causing a rise in temperature above a threshold level. Night temperature plays a significant role in this, affecting the heat reaction of plants. Breeding objectives have evolved over the decades to focus on higher yield, disease resistance, shelf-life, and quality of tomatoes. Researchers use various parameters to assess heat stress tolerance in tomatoes, including floral characteristics and fruit yield per plant.

QTL Mapping of Heat Tolerance in Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) at Adult Stage

Yanyan Liu et al.

Summary: This study identified a quantitative inherited heat tolerance QTL-qHT1.1 in adult cucumber, with marker HT-1 showing a high accuracy of 97.8% in heat-sensitive plants. Further sequence analysis revealed multiple genes possibly involved in heat tolerance. The study provides valuable markers for heat tolerance breeding in cucumber and lays the foundation for identifying heat-tolerant genes.

Comprehensive Transcriptome Analyses Reveal Candidate Genes for Variation in Seed Size/Weight During Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Domestication

Zhongfeng Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed a large number of genes expressed during peanut seed development, with some specifically expressed at 15 days post flowering. Differential gene expression was observed at different time points. Candidate genes associated with seed size/weight were identified through transcriptome analysis and QTL mapping.
