Molecular characterization, expression and interaction of MAPK, MAPKK and MAPKKK genes in upland cotton

Zujun Yin et al.

Summary: This study identified 52 GhMAPKs, 23 GhMAPKKs, and 166 GhMAPKKKs in upland cotton, analyzed their chromosomal locations, gene duplication, motifs, and more. Two complete signaling modules were defined, and it was demonstrated that the network mediated by the MAPK signaling cascade participates in abiotic stress signaling.

Lignin Synthesis Related Genes with Potential Significance in the Response of Upland Cotton to Fusarium Wilt Identified by Transcriptome Profiling

Jianan Hou et al.

Summary: The gene expression pattern was downregulated in both cotton cultivars after Fov infection, with the resistant cultivar showing stronger global gene expression compared to the susceptible cultivar. Upregulated genes in the resistant cultivar were mainly enriched in cellular processes, single-organism processes, metabolic processes, and response to stimulus, while downregulated genes were mainly enriched in the susceptible cultivar. Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and phenylalanine metabolism are key metabolic pathways in cotton response to Fov, with lignin potentially playing a role in cotton resistance.

Plant Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Cascades in Environmental Stresses

Li Lin et al.

Summary: Global warming and population growth have increased the need for plants to rescue themselves in unfavorable environments to meet food requirements. Stress signal sensing plays a crucial role in determining the appropriate response and ultimately the survival of plants. Plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades are key in regulating responses to major environmental stresses.

The Cotton Lignin Biosynthetic Gene Gh4CL30 Regulates Lignification and Phenolic Content and Contributes to Verticillium Wilt Resistance

Xian-Peng Xiong et al.

Summary: This study compared the defense transcriptomes of cotton cultivars with different levels of resistance to Verticillium wilt, identified hub genes associated with responses to the disease, and functionally characterized a gene involved in lignin biosynthesis. Knockdown of the hub gene Gh4CL30 led to changes in the content of various compounds and enhanced cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae, suggesting its key role in modulating the lignin biosynthesis pathway and providing new insights into cotton resistance mechanisms.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of the NCED family in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

QingHua Li et al.

Summary: Abscisic acid (ABA) is an important plant hormone that regulates growth, development, and stress responses. The NCED gene family, involved in ABA synthesis, was identified in cotton with 23 genes. The study showed that some NCED genes in cotton exhibited stage-specific expression patterns and were associated with changes in ABA content, implying a role in ABA synthesis.

Plant Defense Responses to Biotic Stress and Its Interplay With Fluctuating Dark/Light Conditions

Zahra Iqbal et al.

Summary: Plants face various environmental cues that lead to significant losses in crop productivity. The defense mechanisms developed by plants against herbivores and pathogens can be either preformed or inducible, helping them generate appropriate responses to attacks. The interplay between different signals in generating defense responses against biotic stress, especially the impact of light and dark signals, remains elusive.

GhWRKY46 from upland cotton positively regulates the drought and salt stress responses in plant

Yu Li et al.

Summary: The gene GhWRKY46, encoding WRKY transcription factor protein, was found to potentially be associated with drought and salt pressure. Overexpression of GhWRKY46 in Arabidopsis enhanced tolerance to salt and drought, improved survival rates, chlorophyll contents, and biomasses. GhWRKY46 also increased the expression of stress-related genes in the transgenic Arabidopsis, indicating its positive regulation of responses to drought and salt stresses.
