Novel 3-O-α-D-Galactosyl-α-L-Arabinofuranosidase for the Assimilation of Gum Arabic Arabinogalactan Protein in Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum

Yuki Sasaki et al.

Summary: A novel GAfase enzyme was identified and characterized in this study, which is responsible for releasing specific sugar molecules from gum arabic AGP and cooperating with other enzymes in the degradation process. This discovery provides new insights into the mechanism of gum arabic AGP degradation in B. longum.

Microbiota-host communications: Bacterial extracellular vesicles as a common language

Rogers A. Nahui Palomino et al.

Summary: Both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria release extracellular vesicles (EVs) that contain components from their mother cells. Bacterial EVs are believed to mediate bacteria-host communications and play important roles in bacteria-bacteria and bacteria-host interactions. The understanding of bacterial EVs may lead to new therapeutics and diagnostics.

Adhesion mechanisms of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis JCM 10602 to dietary fiber

Maria Taniguchi et al.

Summary: The adhesion of Bifidobacterium to dietary fibers like cellulose and chitin is influenced by ionic strength, with hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions playing roles in cellulose and chitin adhesion. Adhesion ratios vary between cells in different growth phases and exhibit different responses to bile concentration. These findings highlight the importance of considering both dietary fiber and intestinal mucosa adhesion when using Bifidobacterium as probiotics.
