Pathotypes of Plasmodiophora brassicae collected from clubroot resistant canola (Brassica napus L.) cultivars in western Canada in 2017-2018

K. B. Hollman et al.

Summary: The pathogen population of clubroot disease in canola in Canada shows significant diversity in pathotypes, with an increasing prevalence of resistance-breaking strains. Up-to-date knowledge of pathotype composition is crucial for effective resistance breeding and stewardship.

Endomembrane-Targeting Plasmodiophora brassicae Effectors Modulate PAMP Triggered Immune Responses in Plants

Md Musharaf Hossain et al.

Summary: Plasmodiophora brassicae is a pathogen causing clubroot disease in crucifer plants, and its effector proteins were found to play roles in manipulating plant immunity. Among the studied PbPEs, some showed inhibitory effects on programmed cell death while others enhanced the cell death response, indicating their involvement in host-pathogen interactions. Additionally, the localization and relocalization of PbPEs in plant cells suggest their roles in plant cell secretion and immune signaling pathways. This study sheds light on the mechanisms by which P. brassicae effectors disrupt plant immunity.

Prediction of GPI-anchored proteins with pointer neural networks

Magnus Halldor Gislason et al.

Summary: GPI anchors are crucial for linking proteins to the outer face of the plasma membrane in eukaryotic cells. Researchers have developed a new method, NetGPI, based on recurrent neural networks and attention mechanism, for predicting GPI anchoring signals. NetGPI outperforms existing methods in discriminating between GPI-anchored proteins and other secretory proteins.

A clubroot pathogen effector targets cruciferous cysteine proteases to suppress plant immunity

Edel Perez-Lopez et al.

Summary: Plant pathogen effector protein SSPbP53 is a conserved apoplastic cystatin-like protein in Plasmodiophora brassicae, which interacts with and inhibits cruciferous papain-like cysteine proteases in order to induce clubroot susceptibility in susceptible host Brassicas.
