Comparative mitogenomics of Agaricomycetes: Diversity, abundance, impact and coding potential of putative open-reading frames

Summary: Mitochondria play a crucial role in fungal taxonomy and evolution, with mitogenome sequences serving as useful molecular markers. Despite variations, mitogenomes in Agaricomycetes share some genes while exhibiting gene shuffling events that differentiate gene order among species, even within the same genus. Mitochondrial genes seem to be reliable markers for evolutionary dynamics in Agaricomycetes.
