Geological-petrophysical insights in the deep Cambrian dolostone reservoirs in Tarim Basin, China

Jin Lai et al.

Summary: The occurrence and petrology of dolomites, along with their pore systems in the Cambrian of Tarim Basin, China, were documented through the integration of cores, thin sections, and cathodoluminescence analysis. Six types of dolomite were identified, with various pore systems dominating the reservoir types. Fractures were found to enhance reservoir quality in dolostone reservoirs.

Influence of sedimentation and diagenesis on reservoir physical properties: a case study of the Funing Formation, Subei Basin, eastern China

Jinkai Wang et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the high porosity-low permeability phenomenon of the sandstone in the northern slope zone of the Gaoyou Sag, revealing that it is mainly controlled by the sedimentary environment, compaction and cementation of the Funing Formation, and fluid activity during diagenesis. Dissolution process, particularly the inhomogeneous dissolution of particles, has contributed the most to the development of this phenomenon, increasing the porosity but not significantly improving the pore connectivity, thus resulting in the special characteristics of this sandstone.
