Pyrenoids: CO2-fixing phase separated liquid organelles

James Barrett et al.

Summary: Pyrenoids are non-membrane bound organelles found in chloroplasts of algae and hornwort plants that play a crucial role in CO2 concentration and photosynthesis. Liquid-liquid phase separation is the general principle underlying pyrenoid formation, accelerating global carbon fixation. Conducting further research on pyrenoid assembly and regulation could provide valuable insights for enhancing photosynthetic performance in crops.

Influence of monoterpenoids on the growth of freshwater cyanobacteria

Lucyna Balcerzak et al.

Summary: Cyanobacteria have high tolerance to environmental factors and can thrive in various habitats due to their effective metabolism and minimal resource requirements. While their metabolic characteristics can lead to cyanobacterial blooms and toxin production, using natural substances with broad-spectrum biological activity to restore phytoplankton diversity could potentially reduce their excessive proliferation.

A gene regulatory network for antenna size control in carbon dioxide-deprived Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cells

Olga Blifernez-Klassen et al.

Summary: In green microalgae, a regulatory cycle adjusts the light-harvesting capacity at photosystem II (PSII) to the prevailing supply of carbon dioxide, involving a novel transcription factor LCRF and its interacting translation repressor NAB1. This regulation mechanism helps to maintain low excitation during carbon dioxide limitation by reducing the antenna size of PSII.
