Application of the Least-Squares Wavelet software in hydrology: Athabasca River Basin

Ebrahim Ghaderpour et al.

Summary: The study focused on understanding historical streamflow variability in the Athabasca River Basin in Alberta, Canada, and the impact of climate change on streamflow over time using Least-Squares Wavelet software. The results showed that the seasonal components of discharge and precipitation time series were coherent with phase discrepancy, and mean temperature has been gradually increasing since 1960, projected to further increase by 2 degrees C during the mid-century. Spectral peaks and trend jumps in the streamflow time series suggest an increase in blue water during the midcentury, especially in the early 2030s. The study highlighted the potential of LSWAVE in analyzing climate and hydrological time series without the need for interpolation, gap-filling, or de-spiking.

Spatial and temporal variability analysis of green and blue evapotranspiration of wheat in the Egyptian Nile Delta from 1997 to 2017

Ahmed Elbeltagi et al.

Summary: This study assessed green and blue water evapotranspiration in the Egyptian Nile Delta over a 20-year period, identifying optimal regions for water savings and total water saved. The integration of geographic information and changes in land use/cover proved to be effective for water management and sustainable agriculture system development under limited water resources. Irrigation supply and precipitation were found to be good indicators for predicting evapotranspiration.

Solving the pan evaporation process complexity using the development of multiple mode of neurocomputing models

Mohammad Ali Ghorbani et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid method called multiple model-support vector machine (MM-SVM) was proposed for estimating pan evaporation (EPm). The accuracy behavior of this hybrid model was evaluated and compared with artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) models at different meteorological stations. The results showed MM-SVM to be the best model for estimating EPm in the studied areas.

Modeling of pan evaporation based on the development of machine learning methods

Mustafa Al-Mukhtar

Summary: Evaporation losses must be properly estimated in regions prone to drought, as changes in climatic factors can significantly impact the evaporation process. This study explores the applicability of machine learning models for modeling monthly pan evaporation estimation in Iraq, with the weighted K-nearest neighbor model showing better accuracy compared to other existing models.
