Fa-Guang Zhang et al.

Summary: This review highlights the importance and applications of triazines, a class of six-membered aromatic heterocycles, in the synthesis of N heterocycles, natural product preparation, and bioorthogonal chemistry. It discusses the construction of triazines through annulation and ring-expansion reactions, emphasizing their role in IEDDA cycloaddition reactions for accessing a wide scope of heterocycles. Furthermore, it explores the bioorthogonal application of triazines in fast click ligation with strained alkenes and alkynes, providing a new opportunity for studying biomolecules in chemical biology.

Diels-Alder Reaction in a Molecular Junction

Leopoldo Mejia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the utility of molecular junctions to probe chemical reactivity at the single-molecule level. By using molecular dynamics coupled with quantum transport simulations, researchers found that the degree of reactivity in nanojunctions can be mechanically manipulated by controlling the proximity of the electrodes. Surprisingly, the entropic and energetic cost in the nanoconfined reaction coincides with that observed in bulk, establishing a clear connection between measurements performed in these two vastly different reactive environments.

Regio- and Stereoselective Synthesis of Multi-Alkylated Allylic Boronates through Three-Component Coupling Reactions between Allenes, Alkyl Halides, and a Diboron Reagent

Yu Ozawa et al.

Summary: Multisubstituted allylic boronates are valuable precursors for constructing densely substituted carbon skeletons. The regio- and stereoselective coupling reactions between gem-dialkylallenes, alkyl halides, and a diboron reagent can lead to sterically congested allylic boronates. Computational study revealed that the selectivity-determining mechanism is correlated to the coordination of a boryl copper(I) species to the allene substrate as well as the borylcupration step.

Theoretical study of the Diels-Alder reaction of 3-bromo-1-phenylprop-2-ynone with furan and 2-methylfuran

Summary: The Diels-Alder cycloaddition of 3-bromo-1-phenylprop-2-ynone with furan and 2-methylfuran was studied using molecular electron density theory and DFT calculation at the B3LYB/6-311G (d,p) level. The regioselectivity of the reaction is influenced by the diene acting as a nucleophile and the dienophile behaving as an electrophile. The reaction mechanism was followed by optimizing transition state structures and estimating activation energies.

Origin of asynchronicity in Diels-Alder reactions

Pascal Vermeeren et al.

Summary: Asynchronicity in Diels-Alder reactions is usually attributed to stronger orbital interactions between the diene and asymmetric dienophile, but it is actually induced by Pauli repulsion. An asynchronous reaction mode can reduce unfavorable Pauli repulsion, leading to a deviation from synchronicity.
