Near ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study of CO2 activation and hydrogenation on indium/copper surface

Mo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the chemical properties and catalytic role of indium/copper model catalysts under CO2 hydrogenation conditions were investigated using NAPXPS. It was found that the Cu-In alloy promoted the activation of CO2 on the surface of In/Cu samples, suggesting a potential for the design of advanced In-based bimetallic catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation.

Impact of hybrid CO2-CO feeds on methanol synthesis over In2O3-based catalysts

Thaylan P. Araujo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sensitivity of In2O3 catalysts to CO, finding a decrease in methanol productivity for most catalysts except one. Controlled formation of oxygen vacancies and resistance to sintering were identified as key factors for activation, while a combination of CO/H2O-induced sintering and CO inhibition caused performance loss. Assessment with mixed CO2-CO feeds is crucial for designing industrially viable catalysts for sustainable methanol production.

Revealing the Surface Chemistry for CO2 Hydrogenation on Cu/CeO2-x Using Near-Ambient-Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

Mo Li et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Cu catalysts are highly active and selective for CO2 hydrogenation to CO, with metallic copper and partially reduced ceria identified as the active sites. The strong interaction between Cu and CeO2-x during CO2 hydrogenation was favored, facilitating the conversion of CO2 to CO. The surface analysis revealed the step-by-step process of CO2 hydrogenation, providing experimental evidence for a high catalytic performance in the RWGS reaction.

Systematic and collaborative approach to problem solving using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Neal Fairley et al.

Summary: The methodology presented in this work is a result of interactions between junior and senior XPS users within the CasaXPS framework, particularly through workshops organized by IMN. The discussions from these workshops have been instrumental in developing the XPS data processing concept and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in surface analysis problem-solving. This methodology has evolved over subsequent workshops and now represents the philosophy used in CasaXPS spectral data processing paradigm.

Fast oxygen ion migration in Cu-In-oxide bulk and its utilization for effective CO2 conversion at lower temperature

Jun-Ichiro Makiura et al.

Summary: Efficient activation of CO2 at low temperature was achieved via reverse water-gas shift using Cu-In2O3, which demonstrated a higher CO2 splitting rate than ever reported. The fast migration of oxide ions in the alloy and the preferential oxidation of the interface of alloy-In2O3 in the bulk of the particles were identified as key factors for the high CO2 splitting rate. These findings could open up new avenues for effective CO2 conversion at lower temperatures.
