Response of benthic macroinvertebrates to different hydropower off-stream diversion schemes

Silvia Quadroni et al.

Summary: The study in the Lake Como basin, Italy, found significant differences in benthic assemblages between reaches below hydropower reservoirs and intakes, with the former showing more sensitivity to streamflow alterations. The results suggest that increasing environmental flow during high flow seasons could improve benthic assemblages, particularly in dewatered river sections below reservoirs.
