Determination of chloroform concentration and human exposure assessment in the swimming pool

Mansooreh Dehghani et al.

Summary: The study found that the concentration of chlorination by-products in the swimming pool was below international standards, but there still existed potential health risks, especially for male swimmers. The research showed that dermal exposure was the main route of exposure, and swimming exposure time and chloroform concentration were the most relevant variables in the health risk model.

Health risks of inhalation exposure to BTEX in a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Middle East city: Shiraz, Iran

Mansooreh Dehghani et al.

Summary: This study measured BTEX concentration in a municipal wastewater treatment plant and assessed the health risks of inhalation exposure to these compounds. The results showed that benzene and toluene levels in winter were higher than in summer, but below occupational exposure levels. The carcinogenic risks at all sampling sites were below U.S.EPA threshold, indicating no cancer risk.

Concentration, distribution and probabilistic health risk assessment of exposure to fluoride in drinking water of Hormozgan province, Iran

Amin Mohammadpour et al.

Summary: The study conducted in the southern province of Iran found that the fluoride concentration in drinking water ranged from 0.1 to 0.9 mg/L, following a normal distribution, with higher concentrations observed in the central and northern regions. Monte-Carlo simulation revealed a potential non-carcinogenic risk for children in the 95th percentile, while sensitivity analysis identified fluoride concentration and water consumption rate as the most influential factors in the model. The results highlight the importance of continuous monitoring of fluoride levels in water resources and implementing proper dietary guidelines in this province.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of anthropogenic factors on nitrate concentration within a 400-meter radius of wells, assessed the health risk from nitrate concentration, and analyzed its sensitivity using various methods. The results showed that nitrate concentration was recognized as the most effective factor in the non-carcinogenicity risk of nitrates.

Assessment of groundwater geochemistry and human health risk of an intensively cropped alluvial plain, NW Italy

Ashwani Kumar Tiwari et al.

Summary: The study utilized combined approaches to evaluate the geochemistry, sources of ions, and human health risks in the groundwater of Tronzano Vercellese, showing that major ion chemistry was influenced by weathering of carbonate and silicate minerals and ion-exchange reactions. Statistical analysis revealed non-lithogenic origins for some elements, with estimated risk values higher for children compared to adults.

Integrated approaches to identify the major controlling factors of groundwater chemistry and quality assessment for suitability of different uses in West Singhbhum, India

Soma Giri et al.

Summary: The study in the West Singhbhum district found that groundwater is acidic to slightly alkaline, dominated by carbonate and silicate minerals. Most samples were suitable for drinking, domestic, and irrigation uses, but some locations had limitations due to low pH, high hardness, and TDS levels, as well as high magnesium hazard values. The results can aid decision-makers in groundwater quality management planning for the area.
