Spatiotemporal variations of land surface albedo and associated influencing factors on the Tibetan Plateau

Guojin Pang et al.

Summary: Land surface albedo on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) showed significant spatial and temporal variations from 1982 to 2015, influenced by factors such as snow cover, vegetation, and soil moisture. The average albedo exhibited a clear seasonal cycle with a peak in winter and a minimum value in summer, with a weakly downward trend in annual average albedo. Interannual variation of albedo was more responsive to changes in snow cover and vegetation cover in different regions on the TP.

Investigating the all-sky surface solar radiation and its influencing factors in the Yangtze River Basin in recent four decades

Ziyan Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilized the MERRA-2 dataset to analyze the all-sky surface solar radiation over the Yangtze River basin from 1980 to 2018, revealing that clouds and aerosols are the main factors affecting annual SSR variation, with clouds having a greater impact than aerosols.

Global Analysis of Atmospheric Transmissivity Using Cloud Cover, Aridity and Flux Network Datasets

Ankur Srivastava et al.

Summary: Atmospheric transmissivity (tau) is a critical factor in climatology that affects surface energy balance but is challenging to estimate, especially in remote areas with limited meteorological datasets. This study presents an analysis of the relationship between tau and geographic features and climatic factors, proposing empirical models for estimating tau on a global scale. Cloud cover is an important factor in determining global atmospheric transmissivity, with empirical relationships showing better performance in equatorial climates compared to warm temperate and arid regions. The findings suggest that the analysis presented in this work is applicable for estimating tau in different ecosystems across the globe.
