Aboveground biomass distributions and vegetation composition changes in Louisiana's Wax Lake Delta

Daniel Jensen et al.

Summary: The Wax Lake Delta is an actively prograding delta in the Mississippi River Delta Plain, accumulating sediment that increases soil surface elevation and changes wetland communities as the delta develops. This study utilized high resolution imaging data to map vegetation species and types, showing changes in wetland forest species and herbaceous wetland species over a 5-year period. The research also examined plant growth patterns in different elevational zones to inform future restoration efforts in the area.

Advancing cyanobacteria biomass estimation from hyperspectral observations: Demonstrations with HICO and PRISMA imagery

Ryan E. O'Shea et al.

Summary: The study developed a machine-learning model, MDNs, trained on a large dataset, to estimate phycocyanin concentration from hyperspectral satellite remote sensing measurements. The model demonstrated superior performance on HICO and PRISMA datasets compared to multispectral algorithms, particularly in accurately estimating low PC values.

Synergic use of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data for automatic detection of earthquake-triggered landscape changes: A case study of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake (Mw 7.8), New Zealand

Jan Jelenek et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new processing scheme combining radar and optical satellite data to map landscape changes triggered by earthquakes, such as landslides and coastal uplift. The scheme was tested on the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake in New Zealand and proved to be effective in detecting changes in a comprehensive manner, providing valuable insights for earthquake impact assessment and prioritizing field work.

Dynamic Response of Phragmites australis and Suaeda salsa to Climate Change in the Liaohe Delta Wetland

Yushu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed changes in the area and spatial distribution of Phragmites australis and Suaeda salsa wetlands in the Liaohe Delta Wetland from 1998 to 2017, finding that the annual variation in NDVI of P. australis showed an increasing trend. Factors such as evaporation and wind speed significantly affected the NDVI of P. australis, while meteorological factors had less impact on S. salsa vegetation cover changes.

Prediction of Soil Organic Carbon under Different Land Use Types Using Sentinel-1/-2 Data in a Small Watershed

Huan Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully estimated the soil organic carbon (SOC) content under different land use types using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery, optical satellite imagery, and digital elevation model (DEM) data. The results showed that the prediction model had the highest accuracy for orchards, followed by dry land and paddy fields. This study demonstrates the potential application of remote sensing data in soil property monitoring.

Retrieving Surface Soil Moisture over Wheat-Covered Areas Using Data from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study used Sentinel-1/2 data to retrieve soil moisture from wheat-covered surfaces. A modified water cloud model effectively eliminated the influence of vegetation from radar data, and VV polarization was found to be better for detecting changes in SSM key phenological phases of wheat. The validated model successfully retrieved SSM in the study area using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data.
