Multivariate Curve Resolution (MCR) of real-time infrared spectra for analyzing the curing behavior of solid MF thermosetting resin

Stephanie Weiss et al.

Summary: The curing of melamine resin at different temperatures results in films with different chemical structures. The cure temperature is the main determining factor for resin functionality. By selecting appropriate curing times and temperature profiles, specific resin networks can be obtained from the same melamine resin.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Poplar Wood Modified by Glucose-Urea-Melamine Resin/Sodium Silicate Compound

Qiangqiang Liu et al.

Summary: The development of an environmentally friendly wood modifier, MUG resin/sodium silicate compound modifier, significantly improves plantation poplar wood's physical and mechanical properties by reducing shrinkage, enhancing dimensional stability, and increasing density, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, and compression strength. Through an organic-inorganic compound synergistic effect, the modifier effectively enters the wood cell wall, making it a green, non-formaldehyde, low-cost wood modifier with broad application prospects.

Investigation of Polystyrene-Based Microspheres from Different Copolymers and Their Structural Color Coatings on Wood Surface

Yi Liu et al.

Summary: Six kinds of PSt-based colloidal microspheres were synthesized by adding AA, MMA, and BA as comonomers in styrene emulsion polymerization, and self-assembled structurally colored coatings on a wood surface. Only P(St-AA) microspheres had good monodispersity and a well-ordered photonic crystal structure, while other microspheres formed short ranges of ordered amorphous photonic crystal structures and displayed structural colors. Both the reflectivity of coatings to visible light and structural colors varied with microsphere size and self-assembly temperature.

Self-assembly of poly(styrene-methyl methacrylate-acrylic acid) (P(St-MMA-AA)) colloidal microspheres on wood surface by thermal-assisted gravity deposition

Yi Liu

Summary: This study utilized P(St-MMA-AA) microspheres to develop photonic crystal coatings on wood surfaces, showing that microspheres with core-shell morphology can enhance the ordered arrangement of photonic crystals. By controlling the particle size of microspheres, the structural color of the coatings can be adjusted effectively.

Effects of laser parameters on the width of color change area of poplar wood surface during a single irradiation

Rongrong Li et al.

Summary: The laser surface treatment method is efficient for modifying wood properties like color, wettability, and surface roughness. By experimenting, it was found that laser power and focus plane position significantly influence the width of color change area (WCCA). A quadratic model was established to accurately predict WCCA under different laser parameter combinations.
