Chemical enhanced oil recovery and the dilemma of more and cleaner energy

Rouhi Farajzadeh et al.

Summary: A new method is proposed to evaluate the energy efficiency and CO2 intensity of polymer and surfactant enhanced oil recovery techniques. The study shows that injecting polymer can significantly reduce the CO2 intensity of waterflood projects, providing an effective solution to reducing carbon emissions in oil production.

Wormlike micelles properties and oil displacement efficiency of a salt-tolerant C22-tailed amidosulfobetaine surfactant

Yu Bai et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the properties and oil displacement performance of C22-tailed amidosulfobetaine surfactant EHSB under high salinity conditions, comparing it with the C16-tailed counterpart HDPS. The results demonstrate that EHSB exhibits higher solubility, better rheology behaviors, and more efficient oil recovery capabilities than HDPS, making it a promising option for chemical flooding in offshore oilfields.

Triple-responsive wormlike micelles based on cationic surfactant and sodium trans-o-methoxycinnamic acid

Qi Liu et al.

Summary: This paper discusses a wormlike micellar system with triple stimuli-responsive characteristics formed by mixing different compounds in aqueous solutions, and demonstrates its multiple responsive behaviors using various analytical methods. The study found that the viscoelastic behavior of the mixed system is reversible under different conditions.

Controlling Bicontinuous Structures through a Solvent Segregation-Driven Gel

Yuyin Xi et al.

Summary: In recent years, a new type of colloidal gel - SeedGel has been demonstrated as an effective method to control bicontinuous structures, such as repeating distances and domain sizes, by adjusting the sample composition. Research shows that the quenching rate is a key parameter for controlling domain sizes. Further high-temperature experiments reveal the structure evolution in SeedGel systems.

Preparation and mechanism of pH and temperature stimulus-responsive wormlike micelles

Haoran Fu et al.

Summary: A quaternary ammonium salt surfactant with tertiary amine groups (C16MIMBr) was prepared and used to construct a viscoelastic wormlike micellar system with potassium bromide. The optimization of surfactant-to-counterion ratio, pH-stimulated and temperature-stimulated responsiveness were investigated, revealing the mechanism behind the changes in viscosity and viscoelasticity under different conditions.
