Mechanistic Insights into Oxygen Tolerance of Graphitic Carbon Nitride-Mediated Heterogeneous Photoinduced Electron Transfer-Reversible Addition Fragmentation Chain Transfer Polymerization

Erika Paola Fonseca Parra et al.

Summary: The study successfully utilized U-g-C3N4 as a photocatalyst for PET-RAFT polymerization, investigating the effects of different components on polymerization control and oxygen tolerance, and proposing detailed mechanisms. It was found that adding a moderate quantity of tertiary amine could enhance oxygen tolerance, but excess would lead to loss of polymerization control.

PhotoATRP-Induced Self-Assembly (PhotoATR-PISA) Enables Simplified Synthesis of Responsive Polymer Nanoparticles in One-Pot

Ali Shahrokhinia et al.

Summary: Photo-controlled atom transfer radical polymerization (PhotoATRP) was used to achieve polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) mediated by UV light for the first time, resulting in core-cross-linked nanoparticles (NPs). By sequentially extending PGMA chains and incorporating CBMA for core cross-linking, multifunctional copolymer NPs were obtained with temporal control through UV light switching. Additionally, the core cross-linking with disulfide bonds in CBMA allowed for stimulus-triggered dissociation of nanoparticles at acidic pH.

Djallal Ikkene et al.

Summary: In this study, pure vesicles were prepared in situ from a polysaccharide-grafted copolymer using polymerization-induced self-assembly technology. The vesicles were found to self-assemble over a wide range of solid concentrations, and an increase in the targeted average degree of polymerization led to an increase in vesicle membrane thickness.

Original Bio-Based Antioxidant Poly(meth)acrylate from Gallic AcidBased Monomers

Ali Khalil et al.

Summary: This study presents a multistep synthesis of novel (meth)acrylate monomers based on gallic acid (GA) and the production of bio-based polymers with antioxidant properties. Through photo-mediated RAFT polymerization with evaluation of two trithiocarbonate-type chain transfer agents (CTAs), protected GA-based polymers were synthesized and deprotected to yield polymeric chains with free gallic acid moiety for antioxidant activity. The research demonstrates the potential of these free GA-based polymers through DPPH free radical scavenging and inhibition of methyl linoleate oxidation.

Surfactant-free emulsion polymerization of vinylidene fluoride mediated by RAFT/MADIX reactive poly(ethylene glycol) polymer chains

Mathieu Fuentes-Exposito et al.

Summary: In this study, a robust and straightforward synthesis of surfactant-free poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) latexes was demonstrated using RAFT/MADIX-mediated emulsion polymerization. Different stabilization modes were carefully examined in VDF emulsion polymerizations conducted in the presence of commercial poly(ethylene glycol) chains (PEG-OH) and those carrying a dithiocarbonate (xanthate) chain end (PEG-X). The use of PEG-X resulted in significantly smaller particle size, indicating a positive effect on particle stabilization compared to PEG-OH.

Forced gradient copolymerisation: a simplified approach for polymerisation-induced self-assembly

Sihao Xu et al.

Summary: A novel gradient copolymerisation approach was reported in this work to simplify the synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles through polymerisation-induced self-assembly (PISA). The method demonstrated a one pot PISA approach by gradually injecting the core-forming monomer in the presence of a solvophilic monomer, leading to the formation of gradient copolymers. Using this approach, various nanoparticle morphologies were successfully obtained, and thermoresponsive behavior was observed in nanoparticles formed from gradient copolymers, showing a sphere-to-worm transition with temperature increase. This facile approach enables easy tuning of solvophilic block length and copolymer composition, providing nanoparticle structures with unique properties.
