Shorter P1m Response in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder without Intellectual Disabilities

Yuko Yoshimura et al.

Summary: The study revealed atypical brain maturation in the auditory processing area in children with ASD without intellectual disability, showing significant differences compared to TD children. Additionally, ASD may have a common neural basis for pure-tone sound processing and language development.

Neuronal figure-ground responses in primate primary auditory cortex

Felix Schneider et al.

Summary: The brain's ability to segregate figure-ground is crucial for auditory perception in noisy environments. In rhesus macaques, figure-ground modulation of multi-unit activity was observed in both the primary and non-primary auditory cortex. Activity increases upon presentation of auditory figures, suggesting that neural mechanisms for perceptual grouping are independent of behavioral demands to some extent. Additionally, differences in figure encoding were demonstrated between anterior and posterior regions, with perceptual saliency represented only in anterior cortical fields. Our results indicate an encoding of auditory figures from early cortical stages through a rate code.
