Ion-imprinted polymer for selective separation of cobalt, cadmium and lead ions from aqueous media

Tapan Kumar Biswas et al.

Summary: Ion-imprinting polymers (IIPs) materials were prepared with high selectivity for specific metal ions using a variety of metals as complexing agents. The materials were characterized and confirmed to have strong adsorption capacity for Co, Cd, and Pb ions. The prepared IIPs showed consistent adsorption capacity even after 10 regeneration cycles.

Recycling pathways for platinum group metals from spent automotive catalyst: A review on conventional approaches and bio-processes

Salman Karim et al.

Summary: Metal-bearing solid wastes are important secondary sources of metals, with the recovery of metals from rich secondary sources being more economical and sustainable compared to mining from ores. Conventional recycling technologies for precious metals like platinum group metals from spent automotive catalysts have shortcomings, and bioprocesses are recognized as sustainable alternatives for metal recovery.

Summary: PGMs are considered critical raw materials and their recovery is crucial for implementing a circular economy model. Secondary resources such as spent automotive catalytic converters have proven to be feasible sources for PGM recycling, with higher PGM concentrations than primary ores. Novel recovery techniques aim for high recovery rates, cost efficiency, and environmental protection.

Facile preparation of a rubidium ion-imprinted polymer by bulk polymerization for highly efficient separation of rubidium ions from aqueous solution

Zhiyong Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel rubidium ion-imprinted polymer (Rb+-IIP) with efficient adsorption performance for Rb+ ions was successfully prepared using various characterization methods to confirm its structure and performance. The effects of preparation conditions on the adsorption performance of Rb+-IIPs were systematically investigated, showing fast adsorption kinetics, good adsorption selectivity, and excellent reusability.
