Numerical study of thermal mixing mechanisms in T-junctions

Cenk Evrim et al.

Summary: This study presents wall-resolved Large-Eddy Simulations of thermal mixing mechanisms in both horizontal and vertical T-junctions. The influence of the inflowing cold water stream on the mixing mechanism in various T-junction configurations is investigated, showing a stable stratification in the horizontal configuration may transform into an unstable stratified flow behavior in the vertical configuration. Additionally, a spectral analysis of the fluid temperature signal near the piping material reveals good agreement between predicted LES results and experimental data.

Analytical and numerical study of vibration and transient heat conduction in a functionally graded pipe

Ziyi Su et al.

Summary: Functionally graded material (FGM) is an advanced class of composite material where the volume fraction of each constituent can be customized. This paper investigates the free vibration and transient heat conduction in a functionally graded pipe, using both analytical solutions and numerical simulations. The study shows that multi-layer models are more accurate in simulating the behavior of FG pipe, with the 16-layer model having less than 0.18% difference in natural frequency compared to analytical results.
