The impact of transactional and transformational leadership on employee intention to stay in deluxe hotels: Mediating role of organisational commitment

Abu Elnasr E. Sobaih et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of transformational and transactional leadership on employee intention to stay in deluxe hotels, and the mediating role of organisational commitment in this relationship. A questionnaire survey was conducted with front-line employees in deluxe hotels in Egypt. The findings indicate that transformational leadership has a more positive impact on organisational commitment and employee intention to stay compared to transactional leadership. Affective commitment and normative commitment partially mediate the relationship between both leadership styles and employee intention to stay. Hotel executives should prioritize investment in transformational leadership to achieve organisational commitment and positively influence employee intention to stay, which is crucial in a high employee turnover industry like hotels.
